Murray E.G. Smith is Professor in the Department of Sociology at Brock University. His publication history spans the fields of theoretical and international political economy, classic sociological theory, Marxist theory, social movements, and the sociology of health and illness. He is the author of numerous books, including Marxist Phoenix, a collection of new and previously published essays on the Marxist-socialist project, forthcoming from CSPI in 2014, and the editor of Early Modern Social Theory (CSPI, 1998). He has also contributed over a dozen book chapters, and has published widely in academic journals, including Labour/Le Travail, Science and Society, and Canadian Review of Sociology and Anthropology. Smith has been active on the socialist left in Canada for over thirty years, where he has advocated for social change and participated in a variety of progressive movements.
